What flag is best?

So I don't know what the interest will be like for this but over in the American Politics thread we were discussing alternate state flags because so many of the current ones are so terrible. We were able to find 5 projects that have created flags for all 50 States. I want to know what AH.com thinks of these attempts. If the projects use the same flag as OTL I am not going to include it so there may not always be six options.

As a Californian, I honestly really like our OTL flag. I would consider the UWB flag if the bear was more bold/dark.

As another Californian, I LOVE the OTL Bear Flag. It's awesome.
As a Californian, gotta stick with the original.

And this here gives important insight into how flags should work. California breaks a lot of The Rules of flag design. But Californians themselves seem to love it - not in a "the flag is fine, who cares" sort of way, but really love it and identify with it. And that's the point of a flag: to bring people together around a symbol of common identity. The Rules are just a reliable way of getting there, but they are far from the only way there. We hate text and we hate textured images on flags, but for California, for whatever reason, they work really well.

The original, I guess. The Bressler one looks like some redesign of the Russian flag.

More states should try band incorporate their state animals into the flag.

Normally I'm strongly against flags with text saying what the flag of, the whole point of a flag being that you should be able to tell without it and all, but for some reason with California's it just works. It's probably because it's "California Republic" and not just "California", it's just cooler that way, keeps that obscure little bit of history alive, and lets us pretend we're our own country, not that we'd ever do that (*eyes Texas*). Also the grizzly bear is a great element that should be preserved even if we did sorta kill them all.

Honestly, I find all of them revolting (I hope the people who designed them don't go on AH)

The second (first?) one is too bright, the third too different and "symbolic", the fourth too, and the fifth is men but the bear's color is too similar to the brown background.

Also, Colorado already has a giant "C" for their name.

Of the options given: the current one.

Why no option with the current one minus the words and the bear made bigger to fill the space left by the words being removed? Seems like the obvious alternative design imo since the current flag is pretty good.

That would be my choice as well, maybe with a more stylised/silhouette type bear.
