Vikings live on

What would happen if The Norse were still around today? Would they still be "savages" as seen by other countries or would they be technological advanced like America or Japan?

I don't get it, but I've stumbled upon this question and variants of it several times. "What happened to the vikings?" Well, they all moved to England and that's why all the worst football hooligans live there :D

I think he meant a Viking-like culture, y'all, not our present one of good Social Democrats...

Hmm... exactly what is a "Viking-like" culture, then? What would the requirements be for the present-day Norse to be considered to have such a culture? Are we talking about religion? Or do we need to remain balkanized in small indipendent kindoms/duchys?

Vikings sail up Seine as far as Paris; raid haute coture shows and carry off models

Vikings attack Dublin; carry off electronic assets of Eirebank

Vikings discover America; scheduled on Good Morning, Oprah and Dr Phil.

....sounds plausible to me.

Old Norse religion/Nordic variant of Christianity ("By the White Christ!"). System of government probably some sort of loose federation under royal auspices... or not. Democracy evolving gradually from the thing rather than rushed in by the French Revolution. Scandinavia retains its naval/military capabilities. Culture not Americanised.

Those kinds of things...

No that's probably more the Celtic infusion.;) Not to mention I didn't know the Vikings settled so heavily in Italy, Argentina etc.:)

Having thought about it, I cannot really think of any western countries with such direct political and cultural continuity as the Scandinavian countries have had since the viking age.

Portugal maybe, and the city-state sized ones?
