So I was reviewing my situation here in Korea and I thought of Vietnam.
Lets say that Ho Chi Minh gets the backing of the US after WWI, but it France refuses to acknowledge it. Instead of staying in France and Russia, he returns to the US that supported him. Years later, Ho returns to Indochina and fights the Japanese and Bao for Independence. The US again backs Ho (now a staunch conservative/capitalist). Ho defeats the French and then receives US aid. When the DRV attacks RoV. US sends further aid to support Ho and Saigon. Meanwhile, Diem in Hanoi is handily supported by China and the USSR.
In 1973. The US leaves a few bases in South Vietnam to support the government of Saigon. Hanoi cant support another offensive and agrees to the peace. North and South Vietnam settle into the same situation as North and South Korea. DPRK and DRV begin trading almost exclusively with PRC.
