Vietnam War challenge: Colin Powell analogue in position of Westmoreland or Abrams

WI somehow during the Vietnam War there was a high-ranking black officer in the position of MACV Supreme Commander in place of Westmoreland or Abrams, similar to how Colin Powell during GW1 was CJC or Calvin Waller was Deputy CINCCENT ? How much more unity would the US armed forces have had had say some-1 like Frederic Davison (the 1st African-American promoted to general rank in 1967, who commanded the 199th Lt Inf Bde REDCATCHERS) been able to reach the position of Westmoreland/Abrams or his deputy ? Would such a high-ranking black general have poss been a more positive symbol for black participation in Vietnam, or would he have been viewed simply as an Uncle Tom ? Of course, there are inherent difficulties with such a proposition, given that by 1967/68, of 1,300-odd flag rank officers in the US armed forces, there were only 2 blacks- 1 each for Army & USAF- but anyways...

two possibilites

General benjamin O davis, Or perform Col. Frank H peterson, highest ranking African American in the marine corps, he was known to have secratary laird's ear. Davis, was more popular with the media, as he had been the first General officer from his racial background.
