Hm... without Dune 2000, it seems less likely that Westwood/EA will decide to make Emperor: Battle for Dune (it was sequel-ish to Dune 2000, after all). However, they/EA might still want to test-run the early SAGE engine, so the question is what, if anything, we'd get instead...
Maybe a strategy counterpart to Nox, or a spin-off to the Lands of Lore series?I suspect they would start another original series of their own to test engines with if they don't pursue Dune further. Maybe start a fantasy-set series to compete directly with Blizzard?

I don't think much would happen if Red Alert 2 goes along as planned it would just keep the evolution of the sidebar system of RTS going and no Emperor battle for Dune at the most. The only thing that Westwood could try to be a more direct competition for Warcraft, is a game using the same building system as Warcraft. As long as they or EA don't make the mistake of branding it Command and Conquer, like Generals.
