I spy with my little Eye something beginning with A.

Anyone have any hints for Playing as Spain, targeting for conquest former Spanish Colonies in Central and South America. [family rumour was my paternal ancestry was either Spanish or Portuguese and we now Know thanks to DNA testing that that is indeed the case.]

It's been a while, but if memory serves mainland Spain actually has a really good resource base for industry. I'd focus on improving literacy and population (via tech) to take advantage of this, and try your best to catch up to the rest of western Europe. South/Central America is full of pushovers in this game, but they WILL wear down your armies with attrition, so take care. It's also a little harder to do large conquests in Victoria 2 than in other games, thanks to the slow pace of forging claims and the infamy buildup. Reconquering the entirety of the old Empire could take a very long time, and trying to rush it too much might have consequences. You are in an excellent position to make a big colonial empire in Africa if you don't fall behind on the needed techs, if you want to. The proximity of your home ports to Africa will give you an advantage there, provided you get the colonial techs in time.

On most other games I played, AI Spain falls into Civil War quite early on [I'm guessing this is the Carlist Wars or equivalent of] also a few wars against other European Powers sound, to me, quite interesting prospects.

When you switch Ideology do flags change as well? If so are there any pictures somewhere of the different flags for different Ideologies? [with Spain my switches of choice would be Monarchy ~ Democracy ~ Communism in that order.]

I can't recall if the Carlist Wars are well-modeled in vanilla, but I know there's a good event chain for it in several mods at least. I remember just letting the Carlists win so I could get absolutism for the early game advantages that entails, but I'm not sure how that works out in vanilla if that's what you're playing.

Yes, flags change with ideology! Here's the Spanish ones:

It should be noted that a peaceful transition from democracy to communism won't result in the communist flag; that only happens if your government falls in a communist revolution. You'll just be a democracy with a socialist or communist party in charge otherwise.

I have finally begun my Spain Game; so far the Carlists are defeated so the liberals are still in power, however it didn't exactly work wonders for my economy so right now I am just waiting for my regular armies to reinforce and to make a bit of money before I begin my quest to conquer the old Spanish empire...I wonder if I should target Morocco or Colombia first? I daren't attack Mexico right now because the U.S might be dragged in, because of the Monroe Doctrine.

On one hand, waiting with Morocco until you can pick it up cheaply with better colonial techs might be beneficial. On the other hand, France, and sometimes other countries as well, will start gobbling up pieces of it sooner or later, so unless you want to fight France for the whole thing, it can be risky to wait. Going after Colombia early, and taking Panama, would allow you to build the Panama Canal, which would certainly come in handy for taking the rest of the old empire.

Here are the highlights of my Bohemia>Holy Roman Empire on Divergences of Darkness.

I wanted to put a song that matched it, the problem is that Gott Erhalte Franz den kaiser is habsburg related and the bohemians are leading the HRE, so I tough it would be cool to use a bohemian song, but since they change the capital to Frankfurt I don't know which song to use, so just text today...

Current borders. The polish attacked me shortly after the unification trying to grab east Prussia... let's say that I got their west prussia thanks to that.

I have a problem with my version of divergences of Darkness.

For some reason the version I installed from their github does not have the decisions like "The rights of men" that I should unlock when I research a new culture tech. The profit does not decrease as war went on too, making me believe that I'm using a different version of divergences of darkness. Do you know where I can find the right one? the one from Github seems to... vanilla.

The Github one switched to from PoD to HPM I think, being honest as a contributor I've been trying to raise Attalus to persuade him to switch back as I prefer PoD and have just been updating my personal version of DoD with the PoD base for a couple months due to getting less bugs like the one you describe.

I don't handle technical things outside of .txt files so I think I saw you asking about this over on the Plaza but I couldn't help.

I think try PMing Attalus maybe? I've tried doing with that with other things but he doesn't respond but I can't think of what else to do.

They should do...I'd love a First World War start date in 1914, instead of having to begin all the way back in 1836. They could also have a Scramble for Africa start date in 1881 with missions relating to European Colonial Wars from that Period.

Brief update on my Spain Game: we are trying now to Justify a War Goal against Morocco while France and Holland are killing each other because France wanted to Annex Dutch Guiana, a conflict in which I am keen to remain neutral because of how beat up my military was after defeating the Carlists. I might just try and grab the Rif Region rather than the entire nation, and I've located the National Focus Button at long last so I can encourage soldiers and hopefully reinforce my armies before Attacking Morocco.

Here are the Generals and Admirals who will lead this first phase of Spain's Reconquista, as I believe the Spanish Wars in Latin America after the Napoleonic Wars were called...

Oh, hold on, these are the Sheep, and they will have a strictly non-combative role in this...I mean, who ever heard of an Army led by a Sheep? THESE are the Generals.

    *Rant Alert!*
Unbelievable...went on the Victoria II page on my steam account today to try and view my screenshots so I could start writing the little alternate history timeline I wanted to share with you folks on here..."where's all my screenshots gone?" I definitely didn't empty my screenshot library yesterday, and mysteriously some of my other games had been uninstalled by themselves. I went on Victoria II this evening...ah, there are my saved games exactly where I left them...suddenly I hear the screenshot noise endlessly and all of a sudden it says "1152 screenshots taken;" from the looks of it the older ones I thought had disappeared...what the hell is going on here?
    *Rant Mode Deactivated*

Anyway with my Spain Game I was thinking, before I "lost" the Screenshots I had taken ~ it's good they're back but I'm just so confused ~ of going after Egypt as a target for conquest after the conquest of Morocco. I know Spain never actually conquered Egypt in OTL but, hey, what's a Colonial Empire without Egypt as a province? I've decided to leave my Spain Game for a time because I'm feeling a bit Victoria II'd out, so to speak...I will hopefully return to it after the New Year.
