Vice President Clint Eastwood?

Thought this was interesting: http://news.yahoo.com/video/politic...int-eastwood-for-vice-president-26960983.html

What effect might this have had on the politics of the 1990's?

It wouldn't have happened. I lived in Carmel Valley, the poorer, more redneck-y, drier cousin of Carmel-by-the-Sea where he was mayor. The towns average age is 65. It has more 2nd homes than residents and has 55 crappy art shops even though only about 1500 people live there. They spend more time worrying about how to keep franchises out and how to keep the town extra super cute than they do funding the library or encouraging book stores...

Yeah, but think of the possibilities:

President Eastwood to Ghadaffi: "Are you feeling lucky today? Well are you...punk?"

I think it could possibly could work, especially to help bolster H.W.'s perceived wimp factor and a chance to bring dynamism to a ticket that was down in the double digits against Dukakis. I think his small-town Mayor role fits in with the more suburban focus campaign strategy of the Republicans '88. Eastwood definatley would not let Bentsen walk all over him like he did to Quayle IOTL. The map probably won't change that much, maybe by bringing California stronger into the Bush Camp.

As far as the alternate Bush Presidency, I think one of the reasons why Eastwood was shot done so fast, is that Baker and the other advisors knew that Bush would be overshadowed by the aura of Eastwood. But on most issue, I think they could find a lot of common ground since Clint has always had strong libertarian leanings. If the Dem's still win in '92...I think he might hedge his bets and wait on 2000 if Clinton is still the nominee.

Well, with all of this, we don't get Unforgiven, In The Line of Fire... I don't care how could a Vice President Clint is, it'll be a much poorer world.:(
