He actually had literary aspirations as a young man. Some of the poetry he wrote when he was a student has survived. Needless to say, he was a much better general than writer.
He wrote pro-revolutionary pamphlets as a very young officer and heavily influenced the articles in his newspaper for the Army of Italy, probably even writing some of them himself (all to make himself look better).
He certainly had a dramatic side to him and his own personal memoirs could be a great selling piece.
