Venice wanted a slice of the (New World) Pie

Suppose the Republic of Venice decided that they, too, would claim part of the New World? That they sent part of their forces somewhere, not caring about British or French interests, or for that matter, the Spanish-Portuguese "Bull" line that divided South America?

Venice had access to the eastern markets, it was the reason number one everybody was at each other's throats about the new world to begin with until the 17th century.

The Venetians were pretty happy with their maritime empire in the Eastern Med. What exactly could they gain from the New World? They had access to merchants crossing the Silk Road from China and goods coming out of the Black Sea.

Maybe they could see profit in one or two sugar islands in the Caribbean?
