Valois Poland better for Poland ?

what if Henry III stayed in Poland.let say his elder brothers live longer.

Henry was born 1551 if he live to 60 years than Henry II will rule Poland to 1611 so no Vasa Poland

what if vasa never ruled Poland

Would Valois Poland be better, hard to say, considering he never actually reigned in Poland for long. Granted, Henry III remaining in Poland does mean he doesn't get killed in 1589, but at the same time, for that to work, it would require Charles IX to live longer (no Saint Bartholomew's Day Massacre and no tuberculosis) or alternatively, for Francis II (really hard to borderline unlikely) or Louis of Valois (if king, styled Louis XIII) to survive...

Wouldn't Henry be interested to secure the inheritance of his house before his death. Anyway Henry didn't hesitate one minute to trade Poland-Lithuania for France, granted the most populous and wealthy kingdom in western Europe and his by inheritance, not election.

Whether Wasa or Valois, they will be bend on strengthening their position in Commonwealth, like their peers abroad. In contrast to the Sejm, most monarchs will look at France as an example in more ways than just culturally.

Both Bohemia and Hungary initially were also elective monarchies, when Poland-Lithuania was one. The Austrian Habsburgs needed to be victorious against a Bohemian revolt and (later) the liberation of the rest of Hungary from the Ottomans to make these kingdoms hereditary for their house.

OTOH in Republic of the 7 United Netherlands, the position of Stadtholder originally was an elected one held by the house of Orange-Nassau, but they gradually managed to make that hereditary.

While I think that Henri III is the most underrated king of France, having paved the way for Bourbon's success (from civil peace to spectacularisation of kingship), I don't think he could have been a net good for Poland.

As Valois, his political conceptions would be at odds with the limited Polish kingship and growing nobiliar opposition. I would see political struggles being a real problem during his reign, for reasons Janprimus gave but also for a real political power, above nobles for Polish kings.

Giving his support base would have been limited, I think he would have been more or less portrayed by most hostile sources as a "tyrant-wannabee". We could even end up with AH about "Hey, Henri of Valois didn't actually sucked and his policies were sounds : what if they succeed?"
