The bumbling display by most of the conspirators against Hitler during the failed Operation Valkyrie was proverbial. However, there was one area where the plot enjoyed brief success.
Von Witzleben, in Paris, ordered the roundup of the SS and other contingents and was only thwarted when von Kluge refused to break his oath to Hitler, ironic since von Kluge had been in despair over Hitler's leadership since 1943.
What if Field Marshall von Kluge had thrown his weight behind the coup, arguing that even though Hitler survived Germany could not win the war militarily and the only (distant) second best was to yield to the allies? Could he have taken command of sufficient units to collapse the Western Front or even form a viable military/political group of 'good' Germans?
What would have been the result in either case?
