I seem to recall there was some serious border disputes between the US and the UK about what was in Maine and what was in British North America, or whatever its called at the time.

If not, lets say there were, and in 1859 or so the egg hits the fan, in away that really torks off the Northeastern states, especially New England whenver it would have the most impact on the business between the free and slave USA states. Will the slave states especially the deep south ones even care more than New England did in the War iof 1812? They can help to really make it hot for the UK if the slave issue can be put on the back burner. That is put aside for a while the questions of abolition on the one hand, and the expansion of slavery on the other.

I imagine the Royal Navy will make things tough for the USA,what with raiding the coasts and the like, but not impossible. The USA interior is just too big, despite that humongous shoreline. The British Army might too, but consider how that worked out between 1775 and 1783.

Can the USA build up its navy to challenge the Royal Navy before feeling compelled to wave the white flag?

I'm kind of thinking of the Roman Navy in the first Punic War, although I imagine both sides were closer to going all in than in this war, which might make a difference. Consider, however, the two navies were at the finish of the Punic War compared to the start.

Can the USA wind up with a substantial portion of present day Canada?
