US stays out of WWI

So this USA would also indulge in imperialism, even after the unpleasantness of the war with Spain, and expend men and resources to occupy Canada against a hostile population that was free to roam the hills, crossing into the USA?

Another factor against even a pro-CP USA entering the war.

Personally, I doubt we would see a the US enter the war on Central Powers side unless the British did something really extreme to provoke them, like firing on and sinking several US-flagged freighters that were trying to slip past the blockade and brutally butchering any of the crew that survived.

The great bulk of the US populace was content to let the Europeans fight their war without dragging the US into it so long as US interests weren't particularly threatened..

As has been noted, a dumber British propaganda campaign and a smarter German one could have a major impact. What if someone got something like the Zimmerman letter only it showed Britain willing to do ANYTHING to get the US into the war on their side? The Germans showing that the propaganda spread about them was exagerated.
Actually many Americans were more for the war due to concern about FRANCE. France was still considered a good friend of the US by many Americans who remembered the part they played in the Rev War.

how the hell does a "US stays neutral" thread get sidetracked into a "US joins the CP" thread? I can see neutrality, but not actively siding with the CP.
We've debated this subject on here before. Kinda depends on the level of neutrality. If the US never enters the war but continues to fund and feed the Allies, then Germany loses slower. If the US doesn't help either side, then it's a tossup... the Brits and French have some supply problems, IIRC, at this time, but Germany won't be so desperate to win fast.

Okay, if the US stays neutral, perhaps becoming embroiled in the Mexican Civil War as nearly happened, the Central Powers are in pretty good shape--Russia is out and Italy is staggering. The Ottoman Empire is in a world of hurt with Lawrence of Arabia roaming about, but otherwise, the Central Powers seem to have the upper hand.

Obviously, Germany is going to redeploy her army squarely against France, although reinforcing Austria against Italy might be more helpful, in terms of knocking the Entente out of the war.

I think France will slowly be forced backwards, rather than the quick advance attempted in OTL. The loss of Paris would not end France's ability to fight, but it might be serious enough that the French would probably have to know that they were beaten--and even if this is not the case, the loss of Paris can only mean that the war has swung heavily against the Entente.

Whether the French sue for peace or simply start to crumble, Germany is going to redeploy against Italy, and then mop up the Balkans. This would probably take until 1920--but after Paris falls, the war is winding down.

The UK gets a fair deal, as does Portugal and Japan, but France and Italy can expect no more mercy than Russia received.
