US State Wars Over Ohio Valley

I know prior the Revolution and previous to the US Constiution the US States and Colonies have had shooting wars betweene ach other concerning their claims in the Ohio Valley. Do any of these conflicts hold for a possible Disunion scenario or at least a major war between the states. There may even be room for a Kentucky Insurrection which was close to going along as a independant state.

The states can't go to war. That's illegal. Any "conflict" would have been (and was) moderated by the federal government long before it got to 'war' status.

An official war may not be possible(Tallest Skil is actually right here), but I can imagine a scenario which might lead to conflict amongst the militias. How about a nastier version of one of the County Wars? Maybe Ohio tries to buy off a few of the Kentucky counties immediately to the South of Cincinnati and some of the militiamen raise a fuss.....

Any war would be quickly ended by the Federal Government as everyone outside those two states would back the idea of breaking it up.

Oh, am I often wrong? :p

I can see local in-fighting on the scale of that pig thing that happened on the border between Washington and British Colombia, but anything beyond that is going to have the hammer brought down immediately.

Thats what I mean. A Major War BEFORE the US Constitution. Where it is not really illegal or very able to be stopped by the central government.

Do you have any sources for this? I know there were confrontations, but AFAIK there was never any actual shooting.

Raised voices, heated threats, a few fist fights - undoubtedly. Shooting wars - Not that I'm aware of (Unless you're talking about Americans vs. Indians).

If there was a Federal government. It could have happened between 1783 and 1787.

Though a weak one, the USA did indeed have a federal government prior to the ratification of the 1787 Constitution.

Didn't stop Ohio and Michigan.

That wasn't really a war.

In an alternate world where the Constitution was not ratified and the Articles of Confederation failed, the states certainly could and would have, until the European powers gobbled them up like candy.

The Yankee-Pennamite wars. Granted only a handful of people of killed but a miltia from Pennsylvania just barely avoided attacking a Conneticut settlement.
