Out of interest, just what sort of strategic situation would need to be in place for the US to fall back on fortress America and end up negotiating peace terms with the axis, no win no loss situation.
This assume that otl occurred through to 1/1/42.
I could see it happening with an axis conquest of Britain as far as the Germans/Italians were concerned, but not sure about Japan. (please no diversions into sealion).
Your thoughts appreciated,

As other posters have said a negotiated peace with Japan after 1/1/42 is just about impossible. You might have some agreement made in Europe but would need to have Germany really up its game, basically Hitler not being Hitler.
If by say mid 44 the allies have been stymided with heavy losses, a Normandy type landing being a costly failure, the Red army bleeding trying to cross the Dnieper and increasing bombardment of Britain plus rumours that Germany was negotiating with both east and west you might just see one the the allies break ranks and then the other decide to follow suit rather than fight on along. This is about the last point it could occur as from early 45 the nuclear programme is starting to reach the level that those politicians in the know can believe it's definitely worthwhile. However it would need great luck and/or improved performance by the Germans.
