US Presidential Guard from Federation 1787 ?

OK, could Washington & other early American leaders have decided upon the need for a dedicated presidential bodyguard as far back as 1787. & with what subsequent effects ? Would the assassinations later down the track of Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, JFK have been butterflied away ?

Forget the assassinations, I would argue that all for the men you mentioned would be butterflied away. Even if you assume they still exist, the political and cultural events that brought them to the presidency are likely to radically affected as well.

Probably no difference at all. As it is there are numerous Federal security people assigned to protecting the President as it is all whose allegiance is sworn to the President as well as anyone in the armed services. There was less security in the earlier assassinations but had there been it would have been difficult to catch the lone nut before they struck. Lincoln was arguably an inside job and there may have been collusion at the top. Kennedy was probably the mafia with Oswald being a hit man, the mafia may have had some influence on obstructing the investigation.

A presidentail guard would probably be like the Lifegaurds dressed in antique colourful uniforms and largely ceremonial. The only difference would be if they took on a role that was more than protection against violence and began to defend the President against political threats through constitutional means and became more like the Liebenstand SS. A Presidential guard may have been established had the Federalists been more successfull
