What would have been the impact on US politics had the Republicans rather than the Democrats set the precedent in electing the first Black, Female and other minority Presidents during the post-war era up to the present day? And what PODs would it have entailed?
Margaret Chase Smith has been cited as one possibility during the 1960s, while others have brought up Colin Powell during the 1990s despite his wife refusing to let him run in OTL. What other potential minority candidates did the Republicans have post-WW2 who could have succeeded in becoming President?
Additionally where does that leave the Democrat side? Aside from JFK how do they respond to the Republicans having already set the precedent in electing minority candidates as President? Do they follow suit in trying to outdo their opponents or attempt an altogether different approach when it comes to electing Presidential candidates?
