US Politics: Libertarians vs. Statists?

Instead of the classic left-Liberal vs. right-Conservative divide, what if politics was divided more rationally, between the idea of how much government should control people. Libertarianism vs. Statism ? With each party's membership dividing along those lines.

The Libertarians might operate under the name 'the Democratic Party' while the Statists might operate under the name 'the Republican Party', or maybe even the other way around. How would this shift come about?

Oh God:rolleyes::rolleyes: "Statists"

Beside the fact that this USA would be a de facto one party state with complete Republican dominans, there's nothing rational about this, Libertarianism is a small fringe movement for rather good reasons, and it's going to stay that way.

Beside I think this thread should be moved to chat

Most of us will remember various political compasses to have tested. There was a variation of the conclusions that referred the Authoritarian Right as conservative, the Libertarian Left as liberal, the Authoritarian Left as statist, the Libertarian Right as "libertarian" in its very sense and last but least the moderated examples of all four corners as centrist.

There seems a regressional line running from social liberalism and economic leftism to social authoritarism/conservatism and economic rightism. It seems that most people expect a certain amount of regulation which is higher than libertarianism and lower than statism, but the distribution of this regulation may widely vary. The one side of the line is fairly liberal in social things but demands tight economic distribution while the other side sees the need of an orderly society promoting sexual and cultural orthodoxy and the necessity to earn a decent living by yourself as exclusively as possible.

Yes, but social liberals and economic conservatives are not.

I think the best chance would be during the Roosevelt realignment if he (or his successor) drew more support form social conservatives, perhaps we could get a Statist Democratic Party.
