Wasn't FRance Israel's champion at this point?
How the United States is going to bomb their single most important ally in the Middle East is beyond me. The only way you could ever have any animosity between the US and Israel is if by some chance the Israelis favored the Soviets. But I dont how that could happen.
Wasn't Israel basically a French allie at this point, NOT an American one?
Israel has changed major allies repeatedly over the decades, starting out with Stalin

as their big supporter, and the French who didn't really have the power to back it up. Israel was originally set up as a secular socialist utopia - have a good look at how the Kibutz were organised - never mind how it looks now. The post Soviet immigration of religious true belivers added to a growing swing in that direction. The Jews were traditionally the champions of the left in European politics, and modern Israel was founded from that end of the spectrum, not a very pro-American group.
The French took over as principal alley until after the Six Day War, hence the Israeli Air Force being dependent on French aircraft at this point. US aircraft like the A-4, F-4 and CH-53 only show up after 1967 because the French embargoed Israel for daring to actually use the warplanes they had been sold to fight a war.
With the Soviets taking advantage of the post-Six day war situation to become the Arabs supporter and weapons supplier - thereby building up their credentials in the third and anti-western world - the US threw in with Israel as a Cold War counterweight.
