US nukes Israel in 1967

If we ignore the issue of codes released(or not...) there is still the question of whether one or more low ranking USN pilots will be willing to start using nuclear weapons.

I don't think any one would mean to do it, combat is stressful (for man and plane) things go wrong, the US has lost lots of bombs over the years, luckily never in combat.

Even if the planes had attacked the Israeli ships the weapons would not have detonated because the flight crews did not receive the Nuclear Release codes needed to arm the weapons.

While I agree with you otherwise, including that it is extremely unlikely that nuclear weapons would be used, the release codes may not be an issue. Although it's not clear if that was all the bombs or just the Minutemans...

One need not see a global Zionist conspiracy to realize that Mossad is known for assassinations. (Of course, they do tend to backfire...)

But one need be either a conspiracy theorist or an idiot to think that Mossad would even consider the assassination of the sitting US president. I'm sorry, but that's utterly insane.

The Navy believed the aircraft were Syrian. We sent a retaliatory strike to hit their airfields which just happened to have a crap load of Soviet advisers about. The risk of killing Soviets was high. McNamara pooped a brick when he heard the strike package was on it's way and called for an immediate recall.

We never would've dreamed of striking our Israeli ally for any reason.

The fleet commander followed standing policy to react to any attack on American warships and launched his Ready Five attack assets. It wasn't until the planes cleared the Cats that everyone realized that they were only armed with specials...
I feel obliged to ask why on earth were they nuclear armed?

This is certainly interesting. US nuking Syria? Was there radio traffic from the Liberty? (The aerial intercepts certainly picked it up.)
Perhaps this could lead to WWIII...
Incidentally, I had heard in Wikipedia that the alleged nuclear-armed aircraft were targeted on Egypt. Meanwhile, the source for that statement later said the planes carried only Bullpup missiles. Another source said the USS Andrew Jackson was shadowing the USS Liberty. (Someone should find the ship's log, if this is true.)

An American ship off the Egyptian coast was thought to be under attack by the Syrian navy?

The Syrians who set off the war and then spent most of the fighting hoping Israel would forget Syria existed while Egypt and Jordan went down?

How the United States is going to bomb their single most important ally in the Middle East is beyond me. The only way you could ever have any animosity between the US and Israel is if by some chance the Israelis favored the Soviets. But I dont how that could happen.

Wasn't FRance Israel's champion at this point?

Wasn't Israel basically a French allie at this point, NOT an American one?

Israel has changed major allies repeatedly over the decades, starting out with Stalin:eek: as their big supporter, and the French who didn't really have the power to back it up. Israel was originally set up as a secular socialist utopia - have a good look at how the Kibutz were organised - never mind how it looks now. The post Soviet immigration of religious true belivers added to a growing swing in that direction. The Jews were traditionally the champions of the left in European politics, and modern Israel was founded from that end of the spectrum, not a very pro-American group.

The French took over as principal alley until after the Six Day War, hence the Israeli Air Force being dependent on French aircraft at this point. US aircraft like the A-4, F-4 and CH-53 only show up after 1967 because the French embargoed Israel for daring to actually use the warplanes they had been sold to fight a war.

With the Soviets taking advantage of the post-Six day war situation to become the Arabs supporter and weapons supplier - thereby building up their credentials in the third and anti-western world - the US threw in with Israel as a Cold War counterweight.

Hi,

if the US President give order to use nukes against israeli cities?
i bet that the mossad fuck off and kill not only the US President, but every other person related to the stupid braindeads that allowed us navy pilots to use these nukes against israeli area.

And if someone would ask me if this people deserve this fate i would 100% agree

Sorry - a nuclear answer to the bombing of a spyship is madness, not the rightfull liquidation of the mad person that gave the order to do so - without this nothing happen, cause accidentally no nuke will be fired

so you need the president of the us to give the order and a lot people in the row are guilty too....
