US Neutral in WWI: Effects on American Culture

From what I've read of the Brest-Litovsk Treaty and the shipping of Lenin into Russia, the German high command was actually looking forward to the Bolsheviks running Russia after the war. Once victorious in the west, the Reich would then turn to the east and "strangle the Bolshevik government in its crib" by sending the German army on a campaign to "liberate" Russia from the Communists. And they'd be portraying themselves as the heroes in that action as they were saving the Russians from the murderous Reds and were also saving the entire aristocratic system from them as well. Thus they would be supported by the rest of Europe for their actions. For the German militarists it would've been a "win / win."

Fascinating.

I would imagine that once a red government is established, a German effort to "liberate" Russia would just become a meat grinder for the Germans. Logistics would be a headache and the Bolsheviks could just move their capital to Samara or Kazan or some other city should Moscow fall.

Iirc Kazan fell to a White army in August 1918, so the Bolsheviks can hardly retreat there.

Jackson,

Perhaps. But this'd be a disjointed, inexperienced, dissent riven, and ideologically led Red Army going up against the same Wehrmacht that had just crushed the Entente and had previous crushed the Russian Army. It'd also be a German army coming to "liberate" the Russian people from the grip of the murderous Bolsheviks. And considering just how murderous the Bolsheviks were even in their early days, the Germans would rightly be seen as the "good guys" for that.

Judging from their colonial administration German sponsorship of a White faction, could be much better run than the Brit and French efforts. Not certain but could be.
