US marines shoot Ukraine protesters

In 2006 US marines landed on Crimea as part of a multinational occupation. No one got seriously hurt but this was war* so what if the protesters were more aggressive and tried to charge the Americans or something stupid like that. Marines shoot back on accident or in defense. So what would happen on the international scene? I know this is really implausble but it could have happened.
*simulated war but still:D

With Yushchenko government in Kiev, both sides () are extremely interested to downplay the event and present it as "Russian provocation", organized by "marginal Russia-sponsored groups" (who the hell cares that 90%+ of Crimeans vote against NATO). See OTL Bronze Night in Tallinn to get an inspiration. All in all, if number of victims is within reason (several dozens or less, and I fully expect it to be within one dozen), nothing major happens.
