US/Iranian Alliance post 9/11 ?

Not gonna happen under Bush. Al Gore might have taken the offer seriously, maybe even John "Bomb Iran" McCain, but Bush has too much of a black-and-white mentality and the people with the influence to change his mind didn't want to.

Israel couldn't have been able to take out that nuclear power plant Sadaam was building without Iran allowing them to use their airspace.

Why would they have needed Iranian airspace?

Pashto, like Persian and Balochi, is an iranian language. The Hazara and Tajik of Afghanistan, significant minorities, speak a dialect of Persian. It's at least better than starting out with barely anyone who even speaks persian, let alone pashto.

Dari is more or less Persian, although not completely mutually intelligible. But that's like saying to invade Roumania, you're planning to use Portugese as translators, because at least their languages are both derived form Latin. It's easier to find people who speak Pashto and English than to find Iranians who speak Persian, Pashto, and English.

No, that's like saying to invade Romania you're going to get Vlachs and Moldavians. And the Iranians likely have more people who speak Pashto than the americans.

I'm not going to have this argument other than to note that I manage interpreters for my BN. You're wrong, but unlikely to believe me.

At any rate, who trusts the Iranians? Coordination would be extremely difficult given that we aren't going to release classified information to them, and that the Iranians have sock puppets who attack the US. If we're rolling up Hizbollah financiers and whatnot as part of the general War on Terror, we're arresting their proxies. I'm not sure the Iranians could offer, and they would take as their price a lot of extra influence in Herat and that area. What's in it for us?
