I don't know if this qualifies as necroposting, but I'd like to update a topic posted three years ago: What would the US House of Representatives look like under proportional representation?

In order for PR to be constitutional, it would have to be installed on a state-by-state basis rather than nationally. The most likely system would look like the Swiss method of at-large open-list PR within each state (but without the complications of cumulative voting; instead, there is only one vote per voter cast, like elections in Finland.)

How would the House look like with this system? Let's compare the 2010 and 2012 House elections. In 2010 the Dems would have won 194 seats, the Reps 224 seats, and other parties win 17; compare that with the Dems' 193 seats to the Reps' 242. (I'm still looking for the 2012 House results, but they're not out yet.) Suffice it to say, since gerrymandering would be impossible under at-large PR, that the Dems (and their allies) would be in control of the House!
