In OTL, the US Green Party is left-of-center economically, and more importantly, socially. Largely, they are seen as "extreme Democrats".
WI the Green Party, from its foundation, was a party of "the environment, and the environment ONLY", pledging neutrality as a party on all other issues? That is, members and candidates could take any position they liked on any issue other than the environment?
For example, in the rural Midwest there are many people who call themselves "conservationists" who are right-wing on most human issues but still want to preserve the forests and rivers so deer and ducks will still be there for them to shoot, and fish for them to catch. These people would probably be Green if it didn't mean supporting abortion and gay marriage....
Would such a Green Party have more influence than the OTL one?
