US Christian Democratic Party

Some questions:

Where would the Party fit in on the political spectrum? More to the left and socialist? Or more a fiscally and morally conservative party?

What does "Christian" mean? Does that mean "Protestant denominations only", or does the term include Catholics?

Since the POD is 1910, would this party be a strong Prohibitionist party? This could be a huge variable depending on which Christian denominations are active in the party. If it's more of an Evangelical slant, expect high interest in temperance. If Episcopalians, Lutherans and Catholics get a say in this party, expect a tug-of-war within the party between "dry" and "wet".

Would this party be a cover for racism, or encourage social tolerance?

Non-denominational Christian, like the OTL German and Italian CD parties. Ideologically Republican, fiscally and socially.

Could be configured as Econ conservatives or social conservatives. Let's go with Blue Dogs, namely fiscal conservatism, social liberalism.

Well, William Jennings Bryan could have been the other waya round. (Economically Liberal, Socially Conservative), depending on your definitions of said terms.

In other words, classic Red Tory, right?

I think you can get the GOP to act that, with a suitable POD. TR would be a perfect candidate to start with, due to the Progressive movement.

In Latin America the Christian Democrat parties can be either left or right depending on local conditions, ranging from hard right in the Dom Republic to almost socialist in El Salvador. Obviously they're largely Catholic.

I'd suggest a US CD Party is likely to be imported by immigrants from both Europe and Latin America. But if the POD has to be 1910, the CD didn't become big in Latin America til the 30s.

Perhaps a US CD Party is conservative on social issues but leaning left on economic issues. Anti abortion but seeking a social safety net for the poor for example.
