In 1944 a variant of the M14 Garand, the T20, was being worked on. In May 1945 it was designated limited procurement. Due to end of hostility only 100 were produced. For all practical purposes it was an assault rifle. WI operations against Japan had to continue. In full production the M1 automatic rifle would have entered production. In many ways an early version of the M14. How useful would it be during Operations Olympic, Coronet and Unthinkable? IOTL, the US forces in Korea I believe would have liked it.
