Very interestingly, I searched for UCLA's copy of the title and discovered that another book on Elisa Lynch was published that same year - 2003.

What does come to mind is the adventures, probably more false than true, of Anna Leonowans in the court of Mongkrut of Siam. The parallels are not there but the similarities of a white woman securing an influencial position in a 'non-white' court is interesting.
