Unknown parts of map

I saw this map on Wikipedia and I saw a couple things I didn't know or understand. Can anyone tell me what that little red blip in the middle of China is? Also, What is that little piece that looks like it was carved off of Mongolia? Wikipedia doesn't have anything on those.

Te Red blotch is the territory controlled by the Communist Chinese rebels.

The country bordering Mongolia is the People's Republic of Tannu Tuva.

The red blip in China is the Communists led by Mao, the strip is the Tuvan People's Republic which was later annexed by the Soviets in 1944.

I'm more confused about some of the internal colonial borders in Africa, particularly around the Great Lakes. I don't think that's how the colonies were internally divided.

Then again considering the source...

EDIT: Also the southernmost border of Manchuria looks odd. I don't think it went that far south.

Besides, the territory held by the Communists wasn't simply a 'blip'. The map is totally incorrect.

Based on it I believe the map is meant to show the world at around the time the ChiComs first came to being, they did'nt just appear out of nowhere controlling a vast territory, they did indeed start out only controlling a very small area that was more or less that size.

The colonies their are correct.

The problem is that the map is showing the full borders (IE water borders), but not showing the Great Lakes.

And to add more insult to the map, they forgot Inner Mongolia.

Inner Mongolia would have been still part of China at the time of the map.

I do find it highly disconcerting that you all automatically start an intellectualy circle-jerk attacking the map just because it's from Wikipedia.

The below is the (up to date) UCS map for the time period.
