United States of Germany, A Timeline

Note: This is the first chapter, and all I'm doing is tell almost everything that happened to japan. while this is happening the rise of hitler and the Spanish civil war is going exactly as OTL. We will not hear from japan for a while after this.

Chapter 1 Japan’s Story
August 1914
The dutch government, not wantig to be destroyed by a German invasion declares war on the allies thus joining the german side in the Great War. On the 23rd japan declared war on both Germany and The Netherlands.

September 2nd 1914
Japan has completely occupied German Guinea and surrounding German colonies. also the IJA has landed in china’s Shangdon province to flush out the germans.

October 18th 1914
The dutch garrison in the East Indies surrenders to japanese forces.

November 7th 1914
The Siege of Tsingtaoends with a german surrender.

1919
At the Versailles Peace Conference the colonies japan captured were argued about in a heated debate. They decided to put the colonies under a japanese mandate, however the australians wanted them and pushed for an invasion if needed. Japan in response rushed troops and the navy around these colonies to defend them. At the end of the conference the colonies were reluctantly given to japan with the british not wanting a war with a still current ally.

The 1920’s
The japanese economy enjoyed a boom in growth and the japanese also noticed that they were relying on the phillipean ports to get merchant ships from taiwan to the new east indies. So in 1927 the japanese government approached the U.S. about buying the protectorate/colony. After about a year of negotiating the japanese took over administration of the phillipeans on August 8th 1928 or 8-8-28. Ceremonies were held all over the chain with the U.S. flag lowering and the japanese flag rising.

With all these new colonies japan became very close allies with britain, The Kingdom of Siam and the Kingdom of Ethiopia. In 1929 Ethiopia’s king asked for japanese advisors to help modernise his army, japan agreed. Later in the year the prime minister of japan got all four together in a formal conference in Delhi india. They all agreed to sign a mutual non-aggression pact. This would prove to be a very important in the events of the 1930’s.

1930
The Italian force in Somalia builds a fort across the agreed border between Ethiopian and italian territory.

December 1934
The Wal Wal incident kills 4 Italians, 20 japanese and 150 Ethiopians. The tension goes away a bit later but it remains at a high level.

1935
In response of the deadly incident japan builds up its forces in Ethiopia to help defend against a possible invasion, (britain allows them through british somaliland) while the navy sends a task force that includes 4 battleships and several destroyers and light cruisers to a port in british yemen. (under darkness and in secret) to blockade italian colonies in the area if hostilities break out.

October
At 5:00am on the morning of the 3rd of october 1935 Italy invades Ethiopia without a declaration of war, in response Japan and Ethiopia declare war on Italy an hour later. the japaneses force in yemen is given the go ahead to start blockade operations. the first Italian ship is sunk at 9:00am off the coast of Eritrea.

On 5 October, the Italian I Corps took Adigrat and, by 6 October, Adwa was captured by the Italian II Corps. Haile Selassie had ordered Duke (Ras) Seyoum Mangasha, the Commander of the Ethiopian Army of Tigre, Along with the japanese force supporting it, to withdraw a day's march away from the Mareb River. Later, the Emperor ordered Commander of the Gate (Dejazmach)Haile Selassie Gugsa, also in the area, to move back fifty-five and thirty-five miles from the border.[23]
On 11 October, Dejazmach Haile Selassie Gugsa and 2,300 of his followers including 1,100 japanese surrendered to the commander of the Italian outpost at Adagamos. De Bono notified Rome and the Ministry of Information promptly exaggerated the importance of the surrender. Haile Selassie Gugsa was Emperor Haile Selassie's son-in-law. But less than a tenth of the Dejazmach's army defected with him.

By 15 October, De Bono's forces advanced from Adwa for a bloodless occupation of the holy capital of Axum. General de Bono entered the city riding triumphantly on a white horse. However, the invading Italians he commanded looted the Obelisk of Axum.

November
However this would prove the turning point in the war as the japanese blockade had now completed it’s grip on italian Eritrea and Italian somaliland. By the 1st of november all supplies had to be cancelled by Mussolini in fear of losing even more Italian lives at sea. The japanese ships would remain in the area for the rest of the war but with the Italians now given up all hope of a breakthrough only one ship was sunk in the next 3 months.

On the 29th with the Italians worn out having been depleted of supplies for almost 30 days the japanese led force of 400,000 starts the counter attack on the outskirts of Axum after an artillery barrage of 4 hours. when the Italian commander told them to hold their ground, one private shot the commander in the head and told everyone to skirt and run… most did, and this occurred all over the front in multiple places. The japanese barely had to fire a shot and the enemy lines broke down into chaos. This was only multiplies when another force this time consisting of only japanese opened up another front to take Italian somaliland. However this front was opened up 5 days later, after the force in the north found out that there would be no evacuation. So this time instead of running, they surrendered on the spot. this time most commanders were compliant with the demands of their men.

December 5th
All combat operations are now over with the complete surrender of all Italian forces in the operational areas. Although the war would not be officially over until the 30th of january when Mussolini declared it over.

1936
On february 4th, in return for the british getting Italian Eritrea and Somaliland the british give Malasia and Guinea (plus the rest of the solomons) to the Japanese and Siamese.

On the 5th France gives Ethiopia French Somaliland to give Ethiopia a port city and pay their dues since France was politically obligated to sit the war out.

Why.

It's more plausible than London choose Japan over Australia and later exchange Malasya and Guinea for Eritrea and Somalia or the USA selling the Philippines to Tokyo, or France giving away Djibuti for some sense of guilt.
Not counting the overall perfomance of the Japanese, sorry they had inferior equipment and doctrine even compared to the italians plus well this kind of blockade will have become the first battle between aircraft (plus sub) and battleships.

I sort of stopped reading after the Dutch declared war on Belgium; so I didn't see the stuff you just told me about.

Wow.

changed it to not wanting an invasion on their soil (dutch) and the British didn't want more lives lost over this great terrible war it barely go out of so they just say, you know what, the Japs did all the work over there, lets just let them keep it instead of fighting a war against them lets just let them take the damn islands.

im sorry I know the dutch randomly becoming a central power is absolutly crazy but it's the only excuse I thought of that would get the Japanese to gain the east indies. also I was thinking that the U.S. thought that the phillipeans were a thorn in their side and too far away so they'd be glad to get rid of it. I also never said that the price would have been very expensive.

This effort needs a total reboot once substantially more research is done and human psychology is considered.

The world as of February 6th 1936.

BTW I made a mistake giving Djbuti to Ethiopia, I thought that Italy owned it when I first made this map and I have over 30 maps with Ethiopia having it now and I don't want to change it in all of them so at the last minute I made a stupid excuse for it ok.

If you want me to edit the post so that Ethiopia invades it I will.

so... what's the PoD? because the map isn't from otl 1930's. also the map key is partially cut off and from what I can see doesn't really relate to the map

The PoD is japan getting the east indies after WW1 and then buying the philipeans. I know the map is not 100% accurate but it's the best map I could find comming from google images. and now I have gotten to the cold war part in the map making process anyway and have made over 30 differant saves of this map. needless to say I don't wanna go back and fix all the things the original had wrong in the first place. and yea the key don't mean crap. Just ignore it please and thank you!

First, German Guinea will go to Australia, you know the nation who border it, want it and be there first.
Second, hell will freeze when the British will let the Japanese have all the DEI, it will be more a partitition between the Japs, British and Australia and maybe the Portughese, the islands are too rich and strategical important to gift them to a secondary ally like the Japanese Empire.
Having Netherlands in the CP from the start can change the war, from a better initial performance due to more pressure over 'Brave little Belgium' and more ships aganinst the RN to more difficult supply for the CP due to the Netherlands being part of the blockade as now is a belligerant.
Hell from what we know, this can be the tip that will convince Italy or Romania or Greece to remain neutral.
Ethiopia invading Djibuti mean making France not very happy and destroy much of the international good will...basically they hold an enourmous sign say: The Italians were right.
The British now are very very happy, as their plan to give Germany a new ally as finally worked as Italy now will surely have much love for the British that after giving their tacit consent for the invasion have basically backstabbed them...yes is sarcams (as a plus, Benny after this kind of humiliation risk the place as Duce and someone more competent like Balbo will take is place, and even if he personally don't like the Germans, well there is not much choice here)
Finally the only possibility that the US sell the Philippines to Japan is that the Japanese ambassador had some photo of the US president and the great part of the congress doing innatural things with dogs and cats, otherwise is a big no.

Maybe they did have a photo... :D

...And I forgot all about the dutch having a navy at home "face palm" whatever this is not the point of the timeline, you can tell from the title. in fact you will not hear anything about japan until 1948 or so...

This really needs to be in the ASB forum as that is the only way GB would allow Japan to get the east Indies and new Guinea.

While there is a very remote chance of the Dutch joining the CP it would probably have to be a far worse Boer war and if that war was any worse then GB wouldn't get any US support.

THe POd could be turning the british concentration camps into death camps for the boers.
Of course this would get out and once it did GB would be isolated from the USA.

this would have dire consequences for GB and the Entente during WWI.

also You didn't explain how the CP lost.

with the dutch actively in the war I can see belgium being conquered very quickly and that open northern france to rapid invasion and gives the HSF access to the channel past the choke point.

TRhis could win the war to the cp just there.

Why the hell would the US sell the Philippines when they already promised independence? Just imagine the outrage it will generate.

Because I didn't know they did that at that point

Well, I hate to be harsh about this, but oversights like that are pretty indicative of the fact that this needs to be more carefully researched. Take the time to really get a grasp of what world politics looked like at the time. Maybe even break down the individual events of your timeline and check to see how plausible they are given the historical context. Only then should you take a crack at putting the timeline to paper (as it were).

Yeah I'm kinda realizing I made a mistake putting this timeline up already. And your comment was not harsh at all it's good advice that I'm gonna take for now on. I won't delete this thread but I'll leave the future chapters alone for a while.
