Note: This is the first chapter, and all I'm doing is tell almost everything that happened to japan. while this is happening the rise of hitler and the Spanish civil war is going exactly as OTL. We will not hear from japan for a while after this.

1919
At the Versailles Peace Conference the colonies japan captured were argued about in a heated debate. They decided to put the colonies under a japanese mandate, however the australians wanted them and pushed for an invasion if needed. Japan in response rushed troops and the navy around these colonies to defend them. At the end of the conference the colonies were reluctantly given to japan with the british not wanting a war with a still current ally.
The 1920’s
The japanese economy enjoyed a boom in growth and the japanese also noticed that they were relying on the phillipean ports to get merchant ships from taiwan to the new east indies. So in 1927 the japanese government approached the U.S. about buying the protectorate/colony. After about a year of negotiating the japanese took over administration of the phillipeans on August 8th 1928 or 8-8-28. Ceremonies were held all over the chain with the U.S. flag lowering and the japanese flag rising.
With all these new colonies japan became very close allies with britain, The Kingdom of Siam and the Kingdom of Ethiopia. In 1929 Ethiopia’s king asked for japanese advisors to help modernise his army, japan agreed. Later in the year the prime minister of japan got all four together in a formal conference in Delhi india. They all agreed to sign a mutual non-aggression pact. This would prove to be a very important in the events of the 1930’s.
1930
The Italian force in Somalia builds a fort across the agreed border between Ethiopian and italian territory.
December 1934
The Wal Wal incident kills 4 Italians, 20 japanese and 150 Ethiopians. The tension goes away a bit later but it remains at a high level.
1935
In response of the deadly incident japan builds up its forces in Ethiopia to help defend against a possible invasion, (britain allows them through british somaliland) while the navy sends a task force that includes 4 battleships and several destroyers and light cruisers to a port in british yemen. (under darkness and in secret) to blockade italian colonies in the area if hostilities break out.
October
At 5:00am on the morning of the 3rd of october 1935 Italy invades Ethiopia without a declaration of war, in response Japan and Ethiopia declare war on Italy an hour later. the japaneses force in yemen is given the go ahead to start blockade operations. the first Italian ship is sunk at 9:00am off the coast of Eritrea.
On 5 October, the Italian I Corps took Adigrat and, by 6 October, Adwa was captured by the Italian II Corps. Haile Selassie had ordered Duke (Ras) Seyoum Mangasha, the Commander of the Ethiopian Army of Tigre, Along with the japanese force supporting it, to withdraw a day's march away from the Mareb River. Later, the Emperor ordered Commander of the Gate (Dejazmach)Haile Selassie Gugsa, also in the area, to move back fifty-five and thirty-five miles from the border.[23]
On 11 October, Dejazmach Haile Selassie Gugsa and 2,300 of his followers including 1,100 japanese surrendered to the commander of the Italian outpost at Adagamos. De Bono notified Rome and the Ministry of Information promptly exaggerated the importance of the surrender. Haile Selassie Gugsa was Emperor Haile Selassie's son-in-law. But less than a tenth of the Dejazmach's army defected with him.
By 15 October, De Bono's forces advanced from Adwa for a bloodless occupation of the holy capital of Axum. General de Bono entered the city riding triumphantly on a white horse. However, the invading Italians he commanded looted the Obelisk of Axum.
November
However this would prove the turning point in the war as the japanese blockade had now completed it’s grip on italian Eritrea and Italian somaliland. By the 1st of november all supplies had to be cancelled by Mussolini in fear of losing even more Italian lives at sea. The japanese ships would remain in the area for the rest of the war but with the Italians now given up all hope of a breakthrough only one ship was sunk in the next 3 months.
On the 29th with the Italians worn out having been depleted of supplies for almost 30 days the japanese led force of 400,000 starts the counter attack on the outskirts of Axum after an artillery barrage of 4 hours. when the Italian commander told them to hold their ground, one private shot the commander in the head and told everyone to skirt and run… most did, and this occurred all over the front in multiple places. The japanese barely had to fire a shot and the enemy lines broke down into chaos. This was only multiplies when another force this time consisting of only japanese opened up another front to take Italian somaliland. However this front was opened up 5 days later, after the force in the north found out that there would be no evacuation. So this time instead of running, they surrendered on the spot. this time most commanders were compliant with the demands of their men.
December 5th
All combat operations are now over with the complete surrender of all Italian forces in the operational areas. Although the war would not be officially over until the 30th of january when Mussolini declared it over.
1936
On february 4th, in return for the british getting Italian Eritrea and Somaliland the british give Malasia and Guinea (plus the rest of the solomons) to the Japanese and Siamese.
On the 5th France gives Ethiopia French Somaliland to give Ethiopia a port city and pay their dues since France was politically obligated to sit the war out.
