United Germany and the Crimean War

Wouldn't that scenario lead to a war between Prussia and Austria anyway? Austria was NOT going to accept a Kleindeutschland easily, and WAS very close to going to war with Prussia in the early 1850 over a much more watered down variant of it. Likewise, a lot of (Klein)Germans would se Austria as unfinished business to be fixed ASAP. .

I don´t say a german/austrian war can´t happen, but I wouldn´t say he is inevitable. Even IOTL Austria had to wait till 1850 before it feel strong enough to search the conflict with Prussia. At this time the prussian Unity-politic had already failed and Austria just had to set the deathblow. But ITTL the new German Empire would be already established. Breaking it apart would be difficult ans risky for Austria. Russian help would be needed in any case and even if it was successfull it could mean that Austria would become a russian vasall.

In such a war ca. 1850, Austria would be likely supported by Russia, but it's hard to see what horse France and Britain would have in that race.

Surprisingly Louis Bonarpard offert IOTL 1850 Prussia an alliance against Austria and Russia. Being himself he wanted to get the bavarian Palatinate for this, but I wouldn´t rule out that he would like to be the Defender of peoples rights against the powers of autocracy. Britain had not much symphaty for the german unity movement (especialy in the Schleswig_Holstein question, but if wouldn´t also like the idea that Russia establish a full Hegemonie about Central Europe-

What i saids about what this Germany is like is actually the most i can come up with in this regard without some serious reading as im not an expert.

You should understand that i cant imagine this Germany:
What is this Germany like? Who the hell is its actual leader? I think that its safe to assume that Bismarck wont come to power in a liberal Germany. What are the parties? How strong is the central government against the staates? .

This Germany would have a constitutional structure very similar to the USA. A Reichstag with two houses, a Volkshaus (People House) and a Staatenhaus (State House). The State House would have 168 member (40 from Prussia). One half would be appointed from the state goverments, the other half from the state parlaments. Instead of a president there would be the Kaiser, at this Moment still Frederick Wilhelm IV., who probably would doubt his decision ITTL to accept the crown and the constitution. There would be also a Supreme Court, but the constitution let it open who would appoint him.
I assume Heinrich von Gagern http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinrich_von_Gagern would play a significant political role. ITTL he could be practicly seen as the Father of the constitution and the Unity.
Men like Carl Schurz and Franz Sigl wouldn't need to emigre and still play a role.
I see Bismarck as possible member of the State House, appointet by the prussian goverment, working for a conservtive backlash.
The Volkshaus would be dominated by moderate Liberals, as other parties I see Prussian conservatives, catholic conservatives and a small but vocal radical left.

Without Bismarck there is no Kulturkampf. I guess there would be still difficulties between staate and church but it would be nothing like Bismarck. Is the capital Berlin? Or Frankfurt? Is Austria part of this? Its a huge factor: will there be strong political catholicism? If they are not threatened they might be much weaker. If the protestants are threatened as well they might make common cause. Whats the situation with the socialist? Bismarck had huge impact on german political deveolpment and its hard to imagine how things would be without him.
.

Propably some thought to this later.
