That's the POD for my book "Brotherhood and Baseball." In going over the many different scenarios I found that there were a number of ways they could have won. And, indeed, Lee and Longstreet could havemet up at North Anna and knocked the Union back. Some of that, of course, depends on if Hooker is still in charge, and (not to spoil it or anything

) whether one considers that he was losing faith in his plan before the concussion; or, if the concussion was worse, and Couch had to piece together that "disjointed army," woudl this hurt the AoTP, or strengthen their resolve, so they feel the need to "win one for the Hooker."

) (No, thankfully, I do not use that pun - but if that were to become an ATL cliche...

) And, if you really need a spoiler to get your mind off of a Leslie Nielsen character saying that...
Couch stood for a moment, the others around him. He didn’t notice their inquisitive looks. The burden of putting together a disjointed army in the middle of a battle had given way to a firm resolution to let Howard’s attempt to soften the blow become a promise. He barked a decisive, emotion-laden, “Let’s win, men!”
Okay, enough shameless plug

, part would then depend on whether they try to launch into Richmond right away or lay siege then. The war coudl end 18 months early (there'd still need to be stuff done in the West and probably in Georgia) but if there's a long siege another year is possible for the war. And, I suppose retreat is even possible after a really decisive ANV victory at North Anna by lee, though he likely won't feel like pulling a Northern invasion, as there will be no "victory disease."
