Well if I combine Virginia, it’ll be 50, but I think I may want larger realms anyway so please do share your suggestions!

So I've decided that East Florida will be majority Spanish-speaking, with it's brother West Florida having a three-way split between English, French and Spanish speakers.

If your still thinking of combining some of the realms here are a few ideas:

-Maine and New Brunswick are pretty similar culturally and economically

-I'm not sure, but, it looks like central Illinois in a native state in TTL named Tecumseh? I'm not sure what the deal with OTL Indiana is, maybe you could combine them.

-Not sure what the three states that make up OTL Ontario have going on in this timeline, maybe the two western ones can be combined? Their populations seperatly would be pretty low.

-Same with OTL Minnesota and Manitoba

Long Island was historically settled by a lot of people from New England, maybe you can give it to one of the tiny New England realms?

You could combine the Carolinas, but, that's kind of boring. Culturally they're very different so keeping them separate makes sense.

I feel like the huge blobs west of the Mississippi OTL Iowa, Nebraska, etc could be combined.

Maybe give North Jersey to New York and South Jersey to Pennsylvania?

    Just my take.

Also when can we expect an update on Chicagou? As a resident I'm interested to see what the history of my city is.

A significant overhaul of the realms is in the works! If there’s anything you’d like to see in terms of realm make up, voice it now! Nothing is off the table except for some things like the existence of Transylvania, Long Island, etc.

I have gone ahead and taken up a number of @Dante suggestions as well such as annexing southern NJ/northern NJ to PA and NY respectively, and the merging of some of the northwestern realms.

Okay, okay! I've scrapped the "regional groupings" idea at least as far as an actual governmental unit goes. Here are the tentative final realms:

There are now 33 Realms and four Native Confederacies.

Good idea to add in Native states! That will add in more social and political diversity, which I think is what makes the UAR cool.

Yeah! I cut them down from the original, mostly because I merged the southern native states into one! Tecumseh almost doubled in size a result of me retconning Kaskasia

Excellent work. I like what you did with Chicago, making it more of a state and less of a city state. I'm looking forward to hearing about the culture and diversity of the UAR.

Docket of things I'm currently working on:
    • Juan Carlos I wikibox (incumbent Lord-Governor of East Florida)
    • List of current Executive Council of the Realms
    • List of Monarch-Presidents of the Union wikibox
    Any requests?

Actually, Twin River (Uber-Iowa) has three capitals - the legislature sits at Saint-Charles, the judicial branch sits at Saint-Joseph and the executive sits at Entrepot.

The Church of Columbia is a dominant denomination of Christianity in the Union being the most practiced denomination, just ahead of the Catholic Church. The Church owes its origins to the 18th Century, but really rose to prominence in the early 19th Century as part of the Great Awakening. The Church is a quasi-nationalist institution and exists almost entirely in the UAR. Throughout the history of the UAR, the Church has been extremely influential in social and political life - none the less, it is rather decentralized in modern times as a result of the Schisms of Policy that occurred in the early 20th Century. The Church was influential both in the rise of Christian socialism in the Union, as well as Christian nationalism.

The Church oversees provinces in every realm, with each provinces having a High Seat. Beyond the high seats of the provinces, the church structure is decentralized and largely local, with little oversight from the head leadership. Much of the Union aristocracy/nobility are members of the Church, as is the royal family.

In Transylvania, for example, the Church has 11 provinces, as shown below.
