Union of American Realms: A World-Building Exercise

Misc: Hurricane Arthur
TTL's version of Hurricane Andrew was far deadlier, landing slightly north of OTL - in this case, hitting the tourist and gambling capital of the UAR in New River (TTL's Miami). With 1,007 casualties across three countries, Hurricane Arthur was a devastating storm.

So, how exactly does the U.S. conquering Canada in the Revolutionary War change the path of a hurricane over 200 years later?

This TL has no set POD and is mostly an exercise in world-building, so I am taking significant liberties. That being said, I have tried to keep things as realistic as possible within the world I am trying to create. The path of the hurricane was changed by about 30 miles north for story purposes.

If I had to give a reason, I guess the different patterns of fossil fuel emissions, etc., had an impact. Moreover, as far as the more ASB things, I think the path of a hurricane is the least helmed by OTL considering the varying nature of climate and the unpredictable path of tropical cyclones as it is! It seems to me that hurricane paths are quite malleable as opposed to something more ASB, such as random tectonic shifts, or altered volcanic eruptions.

Hope it's not too much of a problem!

Through the sort of circumstance and expectation that literally gave the Butterfly Effect its name. Weather, wind, and air patterns aren't set in stone. There's always an element of chance to it, when exactly will precipitation fall, how much will outside factors affect wind temperature. These are small discrepancies on their own. Compounded over two hundred years, though, and you'll find the differences are far more drastic.

Plus, even if that explanation doesn't satisfy, we live in a world where human caused climate change is not a question. Our industrial output has been intensifying weather conditions for years now. A reduction, or even just a change of location from which these pollutants enter the atmosphere wouldn't see you wind up with a Hurricane Katrina, or Irma, or Maria at exactly the same point and time.

@AJustMonster I was about to comment on the butterfly effect itself "a butterfly flaps it's wing in Brazil and causes a typhoon in China"

It should also be noted, I've kept the general storms akin to OTL (Karen being Katrina, etc.) so I've tried not to deviate too much.

As an aside, I've updated the world map post!

Update: I had mapped out the entirety of mainland Asia, thought I saved, then closed the paint app only to discover I had, in fact, not saved. -.-

On the bright side, I know what the region looks like. All that's left now is Africa and Oceania.

The world has two superpowers: (1) the Union of Almajlis Socialist Republics, which is !CommieOttomans! and TTL's version of the USSR, and; (2) the Chinese Empire. Both of these superpowers have large tributary systems across namely the Old World, with the UASR making extensive headway into Europe following the !Collapse! and the Chinese Empire controlling much of Asia.

The New World has kept itself free (for the most part) between the two-way struggle of the Old World titans. In the New World, Colorado and Gran Colombia reign as the top dogs, with the UAR as a more isolationist third-power. Colorado has more influence in North America, while Gran Colombia has more influence in South America. This is not to discount sizable powers like Brazil, or Aleyska, or the influence of the UASR or China in places like Peru and Central America.

No exact timetable for these considering my classes being in full swing, but wanted to give an update.

The 2018-19 Confederal Barrelball Association season

Some facts about the league:

- New York and East Florida are tied for most teams in a single realm at 3 a piece
- The NYC-metropolitan area contains four teams in a 12 mile radius (Brooklyn Nets, Manhattan Knicks, Newark Hammers and Pavonia Clippers)
- 11 realms and none of the native confederacies host a CBA team
