Union of American Realms: A World-Building Exercise

Ah, apologies!

And yeah, it's a really interesting idea! If you need suggestions, you might see an Imperial China that is still a major power in Asia, seeing as Europe falls apart.

Great minds think alike! I was toying with the idea of a China that stabilizes and prospers in the 19th Century, leading to it being a major power throughout the 20th

You could also play with the tributary system of China for an interesting geopolitical structure in Asia.

Offering a peak at the rest of the world, here's the revised North America. The Texas-California nation is the Republic of Colorado, one of the premier power (alongside the UAR) of the Continent. Colorado has a centralized unitary government. Colorado has a number of territories, including the Bahamas, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and a number of Pacific Islands. Mexico remains a federal democratic republic, but had a rougher time than our OTL Mexico, losing the north and south to separatism in TTL's 19th Century. You may also notice Panama and Santo Domingo are controlled by TTL's iteration of Gran Colombia, the premier power of South America, rich in resources and a strong federal republic and representative democracy.

I like it, and I am liking the timeline more and more!

I would love to know more about things beyond America, mainly Europe. Is there any chance of you incorporating a communist version of Germany ITTL?

EDIT: Just saw the "Europe collapsed" and the (as of yet unfinished) world map. What do you think about at least West Germany and/or Prussia being communist?

If we do "Russian *Nazis are defeated in World War II", we would need somebody coming from the East, too.

What about:

  • Washington allying with Japan
  • and then helping establish something like the Greater East-Asian Co-Prosperity sphere, but a more democratic and equal variant of it. This could even become this world's major EU-type organisation...
Wrong thread I'm pretty sure

The more I work out the map, the more I realize this world's superpower is probably the communist middle eastern power.

I'm thinking the USR (Union of Socialist Republics - temporary placeholder...) manages to avoid whatever calamity I end up deciding befalls Europe, and then becomes the leader in international recovery efforts.

And here is the Republic of Louisiana.

[UNDER CONSTRUCTION]

These are my current thoughts on ranking of the nobility:

Royal Family
- Monarch-President
-- Heir Apparent
--- Royal consort
---- Non-Heir Princes/Princesses and their Children
------ Extended Branch
------- Baron/Baroness (inherited peerage created by monarch, but which hold very limited authority)
------- Life Peers (non-inherited peerages created by monarch, with little authority)

Non-Royalty (Counties)
- Count/Countess (Inherited, except New Haven)
-- Heir Apparent
--- County Consort
--- Viscount/Viscountess (A peerage created for each child of a Count/Countess, but which then only passes down to the eldest child)
------ Municipal Lords/Ladies (typically little to no explicit political authority)

Non-Royalty (Duchies)
- Archduke (Inherited)
-- Heir Apparent
--- Duke Consort
---- Viscount/Viscountess

--- Dukes
----- Ducal family
------- Marquees
--------- Earls
--- Counts
----- Counts family
------- Earls
--- Lord-Governors
------- Earls/Counts* & Families of past Lord-Governors
--------- Lord-Mayors**
--- Imperators
------- Earls/Commonwealth Peers***

[*] The Commonwealth of Transylvania and the Governate of Georgia both call their earldom equivalents "counties" to the chagrin of the the many realm-wide Counties.
[**] Hereditary Lord-Mayordoms are rare, but occasionally exist.
[***] Since all government positions in the Commonwealth realms are elected, peerages are mostly honorific, and members of the small commonwealth nobilities hold little to no sway. Commonwealth peers almost always include the creation of honorific titles for the direct descendant of each Imperator.

Thoughts?
