It has always been a question of mine why in World War II the Allies would accept nothing less than unconditional surrender from the Axis powers but a short five years later not take the same position in regards to North Korea?!? The enemy was similar, a totalitarian regime waging a war of aggression on it's neighbor. So why not demand that only unconditional surrender would be accepted from North Korea?
I have also wondered what the results of such a policy would be. Would the Cold War be hotter once the Communist Block realized that spreading communism by force would be met by such a response from the West? What would be the repercussions from China, would they even get involved if it was clear that North Korea was under an unconditional surrender mandate? Would it lead to another world war, if the Soviet bloc thought that was the only way to spread their message? There are probably other questions and issues I have not thought of, therefore I put it to the distinguished alternate history panel. What are your thoughts and comments?
