UN peacekeeping in Burundi

Burundi, like Rwanda, has experienced decades of rivalry between Hutu and Tutsi, with the govt and army dominated by the latter masscring large nos. of the former into the mid-1990s, but unlike the 1994 Rwanda genocide, the war and atrocities in Burundi have merited very little media attn and no UN peacekeeping effort even on the modest scale of UNAMIR during 1993-96. Apparently, there were discussions by the UN during the mid-90s for active military intervention in Burundi, in such forms as:
direct military humanitarian intervention to halt massacres and protect humanitarian relief aid
establishment of a UN mandate in Burundi with peacekeepers empowered to forcibly disarm ethnic militias
hiring and deployment of freelance military contractors on the UN's behalf

Now, WI any of these measures had been undertaken ? How would the mess in central Africa have been affected ?
