Ulster Free State

what it says on the tin really. Ulster Forums its own nation State in the 20's (defence ties to the UK so no Invasion by the Irish Free state).

How long could this last?

If Catholic's are treated as second class citizens will if end up a Praia state maybe getting kicked out the EU?

Or will northern Ireland's sectarian Problems never really get out of hand as the Protestant's don’t have the man power of the British army and come to negotiate with the IRA?

hmm

Your basically talking about a full British withdrawal, which is POD in the 60s. There was a fear on the Irish government side that the British were going to withdraw, and labour were floating the idea internally if im correct.

Problem is theres no "Ulster Free State", just a collapse into rampant violence and sectarianism which drags the Irish in and the British back in.

the OP does say the 20's

the man from the ministery

I suspect the result would be more widespread ethnic cleansing on both sides of the border. Even more Protestants and moderates fleeing the south and a lot, possibly all the Catholics fleeing the north. The borders of Ulster would probably depend on the military strength of the two sides but expect probably a lot of Donegal to be north of the border. Basically a bit like a more chaotic version of the Turkish-Greek deportations.

I think its fairly unlikely but if Britain got pissed off enough of the mess and a Protestant leaders suggested 'let us handle it ourselves' you might see, especially a Tory government declaring withdrawal, with at least implicit recognition of both states.
