UK manages to annex Afghanistan, impact on Indian independence movement?

Does the Pakistan movement still become a big thing, or would there be separate Afghanistan and Pakistan independence movements (implying that the Pakistan movement still becomes a thing)?

Well it's possible that Raj Muslims decide they are better off all outside the Raj.
Then we get a sort of Great Afghanistan / NeoMughal country.
Or if they stay an India less monopolised by Hindu nationalists.

I do have to say a Greater Pakistan sounds intriguing. It'd certainly be a boon for the Afghan portion as they now have access to ports. Whilst those territories in the Hindu Kush might be very important as that is the spine of the country.

The problem of East Pakistan still remains though, unless it is decided in this whole process to relocate... Bangladesh.

I reckon without any changes Bangladesh would still become its own country - but Pakistan may well have more Iranian concerns, since they now share a much longer border with them. Plus, Russia is a bordering trade partner.

Hmm, interesting - I imagine that the long-run effect would be more Federal Provinces? in Pakistan for the Afghans.

Since the inclusion of the former Emirate if Afghanistan increases the Muslim population of the Raj I suspect we get a earlier/stronger Muslim League but the northwest could be spun off as it own agency like Burma. If so this decreases the odds of Bangladesh being spun off.
We probably get a Dominion of the Hindu Kush later renamed Kushistan.

I'm busy wondering when and how this happens, because if anything, I think this board overestimates the amount of control the British were left with after the Second Anglo-Afghan war. Abdur Rahman wouldn't have accepted their support if he wasn't allowed some degree of autonomy, and if he'd been leading the resistance, I'd give him solid odds of driving the British out.

Yeah, I'm kind of assuming those wars went better for the British than OTL. Does mean more likelihood of the area separating from the Raj before WWII (assuming minimal butterflies).
