U.S. lefties run with concept of "political correctness" (e.g. corporate "downsizing" in early '90s)

Political correctness: how the right invented a phantom enemy
The Guardian [UK], by Moira Weigel, 30 Nov 2016.

' . . . “Politically correct” became a kind of in-joke among American leftists – something you called a fellow leftist when you thought he or she was being self-righteous. . . '
So, American lefties have experience with this, could have run with this for real, and just maybe, have beaten the right to the punch.

Downsizing: an examination of some successes and more failures

' . . . In the case of these downsizings, the surviving employees were successfully shown that they should not feel victimized by the downsizing process, but instead should see this process as an opportunity for personal growth. . . '
More comedy. :)

The surviving employees will have more work piled on them. And if you're on salary, or if you're promoted from hourly to "salary," you may make more total, but with expected and required overtime, you may actually make less per hour than you used to make. I've observed this with dept. managers and zone managers at Walmart, who are often the most pissed off people in the store. I think because they feel cheated. Yes, I have considerable experience with Walmart, not going to say whether I work there or whether a family member does.

But, Oh, No, see this as an opportunity for personal growth.

The whole thing is shades of Joel Osteen, if you get laid off from your job, don't be sad, be glad.

Assets in Bank and Thrift Failures (Billions of 2008 Dollars) 1980 to Present
view-1-fig-2.gif

Please notice the tall red line all the way to the right for 2008. And from the article, please read, "Even more significant are the banks that came very close to failing [in 2008] but were acquired by another bank with government assistance, . . . "

https://www.stlouisfed.org/publicat...ion-failures-set-ignominious-standard-in-2008

So, 2008 was very serious and could have been a whole lot worse. Both President Bush and Treas. Sec. Hank Paulson, in my universe, deserve a lot of credit for keeping the bridge from collapsing. And yes, I say this as a good liberal and leftie. :)

And, perhaps most of all for both elected officials and just regular, everyday citizens, the Savings & Loan Crisis of the late '80s and early '90s could have and should have served as a warning. And liberals/lefties potentially could have had a field day going after badly acting corporations, including their stiff, formal, obscuring, and stilted language.
