U.S. drawdown in Vietnam around 1970

In my Sputniks timeline, President RFK tries to bring about a peace between the Vietnams and bring the troops home.

Do you see such a peace lasting? Is it even feasible? What do you see as the likely outcome by 1975?

I looked around and didn't see a thread on this topic...

Thanks for your insight!

The peace will last as long as the US decides to continue backing Saigon. Accelerated Vietnamization would help if it meant more extensive armaments sold to ARVN, especially its Air Force. After that, the US needs to subsidize the logistical side (ammo, fuel, etc.) until it can produce it on its own.

If RFK doesn't putz around in the 1960s (haven't read your timeline) and takes more aggressive actions that didn't take place until the later part of the Nixon administration, I think he'll have enough leverage for a TTL Paris Accords.

Do you mean aggressive as in political or military?

In my timeline, he runs on a "bring the boys home" plank.
