Tyler lives

Former US President John Tyler was pro-South and elected to serve in the Confederate Congress. However, he died before he could assume office. What would the effects be had he lived, nationally and worldly?

More accurately, he was a Virginian first, anti-Lincoln and was against use of force to keep the south in the union. As the crisis began he worked to stop both a war and succession, after the Lincon's call for volunteers he went over the successionists.

But to the question, assuming he lives and is robust enough, he could be a (one of many) thorn in Davis's but with the status of an Ex-president. I suspect he would suffer from the same weakness as Lee, Virginia, first always, "loss the rest of the south has long as Virginia holds."

Outside the Confederacy, don't see much impact, Breckenridge status as immediate past VP did help muc (course his brains did and could have more)

Prehaps, and this is a big maybe, some effort to elevate him to the POTCS, when Congress convenes in Richmond to confirm Davis....
