Two Russias

What if the October does not over take Russia, just splits it so that there is one monarchy and one communist government.

What would the new map look like? How long will the two countries survive? It this even plausible?

If the Soviet control the industrial center I think the White Russia cannot survive. The same thing happen if White Russia control the industrial center, the Soviet can be defeated. Basically the one that control the industrial center, have support from peasant and workers win.

Can the White Russians (I keep thinking of Belarus here)not have the financial and economic centers, like the harbours and ports in the northwest?

The Red Army won mainly due to maintaining control of the major industrial center's and the primary rail lines. If the Whites managed to capture St. Petersburg and perhaps Minsk, I suppose that a temperory period of two states could exist.

In the long run however, the ideological differences would mean that one, and only one, state could exist in European Russia. A rump Communist or Imperial state could only exist at the far side of the Urals while its counterpart established firm control over the European side.

The reds need the industrial centres and all that, the whites would be greatly helped by this too but just having some good ports may be enough to let them hang on.
Maybe the whites can have the north west- St.Petes mainly, possibly Moscow.
Or how about the Ukraine via some sort of a deal with Ukranian nationalists.
Or very maybe Vladivostok et al- it has the advantage of remoteness to make up for what it looses in everything else.
