Two Questions

I'm sure they've been asked a million times before but I would like to know if the two scenarios below are possible

1.The Soviet Union with Krustev staying in power manages to keep on par with the U.S

2. During the Cultural Revolution in Maoist China reactionary royalists of the old empire rise up against the communist regime.

Pu Yi, the Manchu heir infamously served as frontman-emperor to the puppet kingdom of Manchukuo, effectively destroying whatever post 1911 legitimacy the Manchus had. He made a half hearted endorsement of the Maoists in the 1950's IIRC.

What if Pu Yi had not served as a puppet to the Japanese Manchukuo go on to have a charasmatic young capable son?
