In the late 1960s through (roughly) the mid-1980s, there were two men on the scene in Washington that managed to get along with and work with administrations on both sides of the aisle, and do it quite well. I refer to New York senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan and holder of many cabinet/administrative posts James Schlesinger.

Schlesinger was a rather colorless technocrat who served both Democrats and Republicans in a variety of cabinet posts (e.g., he was Jerry Ford's energy secretary), who could and probably did eat policy white papers for breakfast. On the other hand, Moynihan was urbane, witty, and facile with people, and had the inestimable ability to charm and get along well with Richard Nixon.

So here's the challenge: how do we get one or possibly even both to become president? Extra points if you can get either into the White House as Republicans (think about Moynihan in the GOP: possibly the greatest pickup since Wendell Willkie).
