On 1196, Richard I of England wanted to make an alliance with Aragon and set his intention about having Berengaria of Castile married to Peter of Aragon instead of having Berengaria married to Conrad of Swabia or Alfonso of Leon and that the marriage plans between Raymond of Toulouse and Joan of England get cancelled, since the marriage pact between Berengaria and Conrad has been signed, Richard I gave another bride to replace her – Eleanor of Brittany, the marriage arrangement between Eleanor of Brittany has been rushed in order to stop the betrothal between Berengaria and Conrad of Swabia.
The marriage between Conrad of Swabia and Eleanor of Brittany happened in 1196 instead breaking the betrothal between Berengaria and Conrad and at the same year Berengaria of Castile married Peter III the Catholic giving Berengaria the Plantagenet claims to Toulouse and Provence.
The King of England had another marriage in mind and that is for the Duke of Burgundy to marry Alix of Blois the younger which happened in 1197.
