2 cuts off half a dozen German divisions to the south of Rome, probably see's good hundred thousand German troops marching into captivity, and Rome falls months ahead of schedule.

1: Insufficient forces unable to take objectives and hold perimeter get cut off and wiped out by the very fast German reaction.

2: Insufficent forces get smashed through by retreating Germans.
 
option 1 is death, advancing too quickly inland will let kesselring launch a flank attack and cut off the spearheads; and the aircover wasn't good enough to prevent that; and outside of range of naval fire support they could be overwhelmed
 
1) The Anzio landing never had sufficient means to do any such thing. The general commanding those forces made exactly the right decision.

2) He gets fired. The end.
