So what is this all about?

Pretty much what the title said. A prolonged, conventional WWIII which devolves into a limited nuclear and biochemical exchange with no winners but also without the all out extinction of the human race, civilization or (most) states.

Why?

Because old gamers never die.

Seriously? "Old gamers never die"? That's your excuse for ending the world?

Hey, I've got a major project deadline coming up and I need the release so give me a break. Call it an externalization of the thanotic impulse.

I thought that was me. Besides, what was wrong with the original twilight 2000 TL? It was a classic.

Well, it assumed the USSR, let alone it's Central European satellites could continue managing into the 1990s without collapsing, that Soviet-Chinese tensions would ineveitably explode into war, that Warsaw pact states would be required to actually supply troops to the Far East.... And then came the silly business of the Mexicans invading the U.S.A (as if they wouldn't be immediately nuked), and various other unrealistic tangents (Rumania joining NATO instead of hunkering into armed neutrality? Iran with a anti-Islamic counter revolution?)

Oh, good. So no Sino-Soviet war?

Oh, no the Sino-Soviet war still occurs. But the trigger event is different.

Look, this is beginning to sound a whole lot like your attempt at a more realistic Draka TL. Why do you think any more people will be interested in this TL?

Errr... Well, people prefer nuclear apocalypse where the villains are good old borsht eating commies rather than implausible genetically engineered and Sympathetic Bisexual super Nazis? Besides, an artists satisfaction is in a job well done, not the applause of the crowd.

artists, now are we?

This is dragging on for too long- let's set the world on fire!
