TVWI: The 1990 version of Match Game picked up for season 2 by CBS

The 1990 version of Match Game is a revival of the old Match Game, hosted by Ross Shafer, announced by Gene Wood, produced by Mark Goodson Productions and it was aired on ABC between July 16, 1990 and July 12, 1991.

Ross Shafer however indicated the move on the final episode of the run that was aired on ABC that the show will move to CBS for its second season.

Shortly after ABC cancelled the version, CBS however picked it up, and it was considered to replace Family Feud, but CBS executives realized that the show decided to use the version as a substitute for the daytime repeats of Designing Women instead and however came to pass.

However Mark Goodson agreed that CBS pick up the version for its second year. CBS agreed to have the second season to have a July 15, 1991 start date, preceding Family Feud.

Match Game however canned on June 26, 1992, replacing it with Family Feud Challenge.

On Your Last Post, In San Francisco ITTL, Season 1 of the 1990 Match Game revival aired on KGO (one of the ABC Affiliates that aired this show) as for Season 2 it aired on KPIX failed to clear this show hosted by Ross Shafer along with Family Feud (hosted by Ray Combs) despite KPIX picked up the Chuck Woolery Show right before The Price is Right with Bob Barker, However People are Talking still airs at 3pm at least they picked up the Syndicated Version hosted by Ray Combs at 4PM.

I wasn't around to watch TV in the 1970s, but I knew about the legendary game shows of the era, and saw Match Game on the Game Show Network. Now that there's been a revival of The Gong Show, I'd like to see Match Game brought back. It'll take some creativity to think up questions that remain as daring in the '10s as the '70s questions were. A suggestion: "My mother-in-law hasn't been the same since she started identifying as a BLANK."
