The Rookies is an American police procedural series that aired on ABC from 1972 until 1976. The show was produced by Spelling-Goldberg Productions. It spawned a spin-off entitled S.W.A.T. which aired from 1975 to 1976.
In 1987, Nick at Nite asked they wanted to add The Rookies in its lineup, which aired after I Spy (1965-1968). The Rookies was presented in its edited 30 minute versions from its original syndicated versions, making this the only cable channel to air The Rookies in its legacy until 2002, when TV Land started airing the show in its original 60 minute form.
Nick at Nite's telecasts of The Rookies always end with the Viacom "V of Steel" logo (so keep in mind Viacom is distributing The Rookies from 1976 to 1992), similar to what did the syndicated versions end with the "V of Doom".
Nick at Nite pulled The Rookies out of its schedule in 1990, because of complaints from producer Aaron Spelling, ultimately removing The Rookies out of its lineup.
