TVWI: NBC picked up The Smart Alecks in 1977

The Smart Alecks is an unsold pilot hosted by Allen Ludden, produced by Ivie-Hill Productions and it was taped for NBC on April 30, 1977.

The format is about how to inventors trying to get their inventions to the market.

NBC however wanted to pick up the show, and it was considered to replace Shoot for the Stars, but NBC liked that they will replace The $25,000 Name That Tune and put its first taping afterwards. However, The Smart Alecks finally debuted on June 13, 1977 and its shown after It's Anybody Guess, before being cancelled on September 30, 1977, replaced the following Monday by Knockout and To Say the Least.
